About Us

Below is a brief history of CETC, its mission and values, a list of its current officers and web site staff, and membership statistics.

CETC History

    CETC -- formerly known as CETESOL -- was formed in 1984 at the TESOL convention in Houston. The group has met informally at every convention since then except for 1986. CETC was officially organized in 1996 and held its first meeting at the 1997 TESOL convention in Orlando, Florida.


    Our Mission

    The Christian Educators in TESOL Caucus (CETC) is composed of persons who have a common interest in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages and who share a common belief in Jesus Christ.

    Goals

    CETC has been established for the following purposes

    • to identify with others in TESOL of like faith in Jesus Christ
    • to provide a framework for networking among Christians within TESOL
    • to create an awareness of the global opportunities for Christian educators in TESOL
    • to share and disseminate information regarding effective teaching ideas, materials, and resources
    • to foster fellowship and encouragement for Christians within TESOL


Officers

Chair  Gena Bennett

Gena BennettGena Bennett has been working with ELL for over 8 years; her experience includes curriculum development, teacher training, basic adult education, working with refugee youth, foriegn language teaching, higher education settings, materials design, and community programs.  A member of TESOL and CETC for two years, her research interests include corpus linguistics and second language writing.



Chair Elect  Michael Pasquale

Michael Pasquale Michael Pasquale is Associate Professor of Linguistics and the Director of the MA TESOL program at Cornerstone University (Grand Rapids, MI). He earned his MA and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. His research focus is in sociolinguistics and second language acquisition.


Newsletter Editors:  Michael Lessard-Clouston  & Meredith Bricker

Michael Lessard-Clouston Michael Lessard-Clouston, Ph.D., has taught in Canada, China, and Japan, and now works in the department of Applied Linguistics & TESOL at Biola University in La Mirada, California, U.S.A.




Meredith Bricker Meredith Bricker received her M.A. in applied linguistics from Georgia State University and has taught English language learners in a variety of settings. She currently teaches English for Academic Purposes in the Atlanta area at Georgia Perimeter College and Georgia State University and will begin teaching full-time in the Intensive English Program at Georgia State University in the fall of 2006.

E-list Manager  Anne Bruehler

Anne Bruehler Anne Bruehler has taught in a variety of settings, including community ESL classes to refugees and immigrants, an Intensive English Program, and a two-year college. She currently is coordinating the TESOL undergraduate program at Indiana Wesleyan University.



Past Chair  Eleanor Pease

Eleanor Pease Eleanor Pease Eleanor J. Pease, MEd, Eleanor Pease is serving as the head of the TESOL Department of Nyack College. She is a retired California teacher with over ten years of public school teaching experience in Massachusetts as well as California. She also is the ESL student coordinator on campus and serves as advisor to the English Teachers for Christ teams that teach English to immigrants in New York City and the surrounding areas. Eleanor co-founded and now directs the Summer TESOL Institute, an intensive training program for people who want to teach English overseas or as community service here in the United States.

Frank Tuzi image Frank Tuzi, Ph.D., is an associate professor of English at Tokyo Christian University.  Frank has been involved in TESOL and technology for 12 years as an educator, materials developer, and researcher in the U.S. and Japan.




    Current CETC Statistics

    CETC is the 3rd largest of the TESOL caucuses with membership of more than 880 (as of 5/1/2007).
